Sechs Jahre musste die Hardcore-Szene auf ein neues Album einer ihrer herausragendsten und wichtigsten Bands warten. Doch das Ausharren hat sich gelohnt: Ignite sind und bleiben das Nonplusultra im Politcore-Sektor.
Eigentlich hätten sich die Kalifornier nach ihrem Meisterwerk A Place Called Home aus dem Jahr 2000 auflösen oder zumindest von den Aufnahmestudios dieser Welt verabschieden können. Das Album wucherte mit melodischem Hardcore, wie man ihn besser kaum in Szene setzen kann, und legte die Messlatte so hoch, dass es seither außer den musikalisch etwas anders ausgerichteten No FX niemand mit dem Quintett aus Orange County aufnehmen konnte. Und unglaublicherweise ist Our Darkest Days kein blasser Abklatsch des Erfolgsalbums, sondern ein gleichwertiger, auf eigenen Beinen stehender Nachfolger geworden. Zoli Teglas singt eine Gänsehautmelodie nach der anderen, die mehrstimmigen Chöre erreichen problemlos feinstes Stadion-Niveau, die Gitarren riffen sich auf höchstem Niveau ins Sechs-Saiten-Nirvana, und die sozialkritischen Texte legen einmal mehr zielsicher den Finger in die Wunden nicht nur der US-Gesellschaft. Gäbe es doch nur mehr Bands von diesem Kaliber…

Die Songs auf dem Album sind sehr abwechslungsreich und reichen von eher fröhlichem Post-Punk zu melancholischeren Tönen. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bands dieses Genres sind A Change Of Pace in ihren Songs nicht sonderlich hart, Shoouts kommen so gut wie nicht vor. Viele Akkustik-Stellen- und Songs runden das Album ab, teilweise mit Violinen unterstützt.
Fazit: Das Album ist ideal für die nächste (Post-)Punk Party, fürs Autoradio oder einfach zum Nebenbei hören. Wer auf ‘Silverstein’, ‘Dead Poetic’ oder ‘A Static Lullaby’ steht, kann mit dieser CD nix falsch machen.
